derek was right
derek surprised me with the offer of taking the kids to great wolf lodge, about 2 weeks before we made our way to niagara for our first ever family vacation. we’ve been camping and to family reunions and stuff, but this was the first time that team gilmore actually intentionally just went somewhere to have fun together! i totally see why people do this stuff!
anyway… i wanted to tell the kids right away, but derek didn’t. so i thought it might be best to wait until after anne’s birthday party, so that she could be the big deal for a while. well that came and went, but derek still didn’t want me to tell the kids. the suspense was killing me!
i don’t deal with “waiting” very well, and actually feel sick in the stomach when i’m watching a movie and the music starts getting louder and more intense and the shadows are shifting and the actor is moving so slllooowwwwlllly… DRIVES ME CRAZY!!! actually, i’m all tense in the shoulders just from having to think of suspense and type it out. so you can imagine how i felt when derek said “not yet” even after we’d driven to niagara to spend the night at my parents house the night before checking in. i so badly wanted to tell the midgets!
surely i could tell them when we were safely in the van and en route to the resort, right? right?! nope.
and watching their jaws drop when we walked into the huge lobby of the themed hotel made it so worth the agony of not being able to divulge my secret. therefore, derek was right and i was wrong, even though it nearly killed me.
